So glad to hear you are feeling better. My husband will be starting his 10th round of chemo and he gets so fatigued that by the time he starts to feel better it is time to start the round again. Has your oncologist mentioned about staying on Temodar? My husband's doctor has and we are totally against doing that after his 12th round is done. I have read that sometimes the cancer cells become resistant to temodar and that it is better to hold it until the a recurrence occurs. Given how anxious and lousy my husband feels when he has to start taking the chemo-it would not be good for him to keep taking it. I know LizArmy has been taking it for 2 years but she is young and can probably tolerate it better and it also gives some people a feeling of security.
ReplyDeleteMy oncologist wants to stop at 12 and see if there is any growth/new symptoms before starting next 12 months. It will be nice having this option if that were to occur. I too can use a break.
DeleteYou will wait 2 or 3 months and then get another MRI when your 12th round of chemo is over? Based on that MRI he will recommend another 12 rounds?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback.
My last (12th) chemo round is this month (Feb). My next MRI is next month (March), then every 3 months thereafter. The decision to start chemo back up will be based on any new symptoms and any new growth on future MRI's. So until new symptoms, or growth on MRI's, I'll be off of chemo. If new symptoms or growth, either more chemo, different chemo, surgery, or start clinical trial. I'll try to map this out in my next post.
DeleteThank you for responding to my question. It is good to know that there is no set rule that everyone stays on temodar for 24 months. I think that if our oncologist wants my husband to stay on temodar for another 6-12 months then we will get another opinion. He even mentioned getting MRI's every two months after chemo is over in May but knowing that 3 months is acceptable by other institutions then we will raise concern about doing that.
